Latin American Bio-safety Training Centre
The course will be offered to epidemiologists, entomologists, medical entomologists, legislators, decision makers and vector control personnel from Latin American countries. Preference will be given to participants from Latin America who meet the selection criteria and who are involved in projects related to the objectives of the course. Invitations will be sent to the major universities in Latin America, hospitals, Health Departments, vector control districts and Ministries of the Environment

Hurricane Ike Relief Fund
The AMCA has been corresponding with members in the affected areas and is cooperating with the Texas Mosquito Control Association in the establishment of a Hurricane Relief Fund, managed by the TMCA. This fund will be specifically earmarked to help mosquito control employees who have suffered losses as a result of Hurricane Ike.

AMCA To Co-sponsor 2009 WNV National Conference
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Mosquito Control Association will co-sponsor a national/international meeting in the spring of 2009 to discuss the public health significance of WNV and other zoonotic arboviruses, scientific advances, and preparedness for the threats these agents pose.

Permethrin RED
The EPA is soliciting comments regarding the recently completed Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) for the pesticide, permethrin under section 4(g)(2)(A) of FIFRA. The AMCA is currently formulating comments and will post them on the AMCA website under “News” on the homepage when finalized (approximately 1 September). All comments are due at EPA no later than midnight 29 September.
